Winds 2010
Going to the Wind Rivers is sort of turning into a family tradition. This year my father in-law Harry, brother in-law Ryan and brother John all came along for the trip. This would be the first time that Mandy was unable to make the trip. She was 7 months pregnant, so that pretty much explains that. She insisted I go without her (twist my arm). I may not be able to get back up there for a few years so I took advantage of that.

Every trip we usually go to the same area’s, trying a few new ones along the way. This year was no different. One thing that was different this year were the crowds. There were a lot more people up there than normal, which did affect the fishing. But we still did quite good despite the heavier fishing pressure. I also decided to pack in my waders this year, which ended up being a great idea. (no boots though, used wading shoes)

I had a goal of landing a fish larger than 24″. The lake I wanted to do this at wasn’t fishing well at all, it rarely does but when you land one it’s usually big. I was still able to get my large fish though, just from a different lake. It measured at 26.5″, nice little lake trout. With out my waders I may not have hooked into this guy. You are always more daring to venture out from shore in them on than you are with out them. I was able to get to an area that gave me greater access and a better angle than I would have normally been able to fish.

The fishing mainly consisted of catching Cutthroats or the Hybrid Cuttbows, but we were able to get into a lot of Lake Trout too. I caught one Brook Trout that was quite nice, I didn’t get a chance to measure it, but it was pushing 18-20″

The weather was nice, the fishing was good and the company was great. About all you can ask for on a fishing trip.
